SDR acknowledges the passing of bluesman great, Carolina Slim

In addition to being a New York City cultural icon, Carolina Slim ((aka Elijah Staley) was the musical mentor of new SDR artist  Jeremiah Lockwood.

Today!! WKCR will be airing a memorial broadcast, featuring Jeremiah Lockwood (amongst others), spinning bootlegs and performing Carolina’s music live on the air.

Tune in from 2-4pm EST to WKCR 89.9FM in New York City, or listen any where in the world by streaming audio: CLICK HERE TO STREAM THE LIVE TRANSMISSION

Also of note, there was an obituary for Carolina Slim in the NY Times yesterday that included a beautiful tribute video by the film maker Jenny Schweitzer that we highly recommend. CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE TRIBUTE VIDEO

40 friends and family settled into the lawn, by the comfort of three fires (and all of the food and drink we could need!) for the newest System Dialing Records festival production. The rain never really came and the musicians delivered triumphant performances: Jeremiah Lockwood’s timeless voice and guitar, Pop It!’s complex web of rhythms and textures, and Fete Logic’s ever-evolving development of new forms of sonic energy!
